Welcome to your weekly scooop of mural & street art, opps, events, and media curated by the BE team. Since 2012, Beautify Earth has supported art on the streets through local art productions, networks, and media. Edited by Moral Masuoka. Header art by Mary Iverson.
On repeat this week is the 1972 ablbum 'Introspection' by Luiz Bonfá (1922–2001). Bonfá was a Brazilian guitarist and composer renowned for his role in the development of bossa nova. His guitar style blended classical training with Brazilian rhythms, creating a distinctive, emotive sound.
My paintings explore the balance between the environment and industrial activities, inspiring conversations about our complicated relationship with nature. I enjoy designing murals that bring nature and color into industrial spaces. My main sources of inspiration are the three magnificent National Parks close to home: Rainier, Olympic, and North Cascades National Parks, and the colorful geometry of the Port of Seattle.
by Giulia Blocal, Beyond the Walls -- "This month’s editorial was sparked by the graffiti film “The Art of Disobedience”, created by and about Rome’s graffiti king, GECO—a documentary currently touring cinemas across Italy and Europe. The film serves as a starting point for a reflection on the ethos of graffiti, what has always fascinated me about this world, and what we can learn from it." Read more
by Byron Armstrong, Forbes -- "In a city celebrated for its cultural diversity, Toronto’s most compelling art experiences are increasingly unfolding far beyond traditional museums and galleries. They pulse through the rush of commuters at Union Station, resonate in the bustling corridors of suburban shopping malls, and transform sterile office plazas into destinations. This shift isn’t accidental – it’s driven by a pioneering coalition of private sector giants and grassroots arts organizers who are proving that commerce and culture, far from being at odds, can create vibrant, accessible, and deeply meaningful artistic encounters for millions." edited by Albert Hofstadter & Richard Kuhns -- "This anthology is remarkable not only for the selections themselves, among which the Schelling and the Heidegger essays were translated especially for this volume, but also for the editors' general introduction and the introductory essays for each selection, which make this volume an invaluable aid to the study of the powerful, recurrent ideas concerning art, beauty, critical method, and the nature of representation."
