Inspired by the recent success in Barcelona, community leader and Beautify family member, Albin Gielicz has begun this deep expression of gratitude here in Santa Monica, with the hope to spread it to other communities around Los Angeles.
A simple daily round of applause at a specific time each day to celebrate the real
heroes of this crisis - the people working essential jobs - is all it takes to show we care as a community.
Albin's message and instruction to us all:
Attention Santa Monica! Let's take a minute every evening at 6pm to give a round of applause to the real heroes of the COVID-19 crisis. The people in healthcare, restaurants, grocery stores, pharmacies, civil services and other essential jobs are on the front line, putting themselves at risk to keep the rest of us safe at home. We need to acknowledge their efforts in getting us through this tough period. So, while maintaining proper social distance, let's go out on to our balconies, driveways, front yards or sidewalks at 6pm every evening (starting this Thursday, 26 March) and applaud these heroes for one minute.

The cheer and love has been building. After a few weeks, many neighborhoods around Santa Monica can be heard praising our heroes. From musical instruments to street-side hooting, to caravans of cars hoking along side our two biggest hospitals... St John's and UCLA.
